Why Three Chemistries Under One Roof Beats One

The storage market is not one market. A 2-hour grid-firming battery, a 4-hour industrial peak-shaving unit and a 48-hour island or mine-site system answer different questions — and no single chemistry answers all of them efficiently.

Lithium-ion remains the high-energy-density workhorse for EVs and short-duration firming. Sodium-ion takes over where cost sensitivity and abundance matter more, at moderate durations. Zinc-air — using abundant, non-flammable zinc and ambient oxygen — is the long-duration answer at 24 to 100 hours, where lithium economics break down.

Building all three in one facility lets Vermicom share infrastructure, quality systems, feedstock logistics and skills across lines, while offering customers a single counterparty for the full storage spectrum. It also diversifies technology risk: no single chemistry, commodity or end-market dominates the plant's fortunes.

This is why the Coega plant is designed as a multi-chemistry facility from day one, rather than a single-technology line with later bolt-ons.
